It may seems strange to see that Marzal wants to include this painting with the set of frames dedicated to the human being. But he has good reasons: this horse is also a symbol of the human being. The animal is depicted in a reduction of its utility, that is to say, only the parts that are useful to humans: the head to direct and the hoofs to run. It is a racing machine. It is also devoid of eyes, because the rider wants it to always run straight, without any possible distraction (the zebra-stripped point on the forehead of the horse as a signal of the withdrawn sense). Yet, the ears are erected and alert. In society, the human being is pretty much reduced to his utility, we don’t consider him as a whole “being” but more as a useful (or not) piece to gears. This social injustice mainly strikes the less capable among us, who are defective pieces according to this utilitarian criteria. The chosen horse is white as the horses from Dubai, famous for their remarkable speed.
